Yezidi Human Rights
Yezidis (or alternatively Yazidis) are an indigenous group located in the area that stretches from Iran to Turkey. Their majority population is located in modern Iraq’s Kurdish areas. Yazidi are a religious majority in an overwhelming Islamic landscape. Yezidis have faced persecution at the hands of the majority faith since a millenia. Lately, they became a special target for sexual slavery and elimination, as ISIS overran and occupied their lands. Even though the occupation has ended technically, but that has not alleviated their suffering. Yezidis living in the US have been raising their voices, but due to lack of numbers and resources, their voices do not find representation at the table. The U.S. establishment has its own interest in the quagmire in Mideast politics, hence there is very little hearing do the Yezidis get from the US government. It is up to the civil society to rise to take cognizant of Yezidi plight and bring attention to the international community.
